the amount of sanding to get the chrome down is a SOB.. You'd be best off buying a black set if you wanna go that way..

I hit mud all the time with my plasti dipped rims/front and back chrome bumpers and i can power wash the mud right out with some soapy water.. I even hit my dipped bumpers with a layer of clear coat and it hasn't messed with it at all cleaning wise, IMO it's a little easier.

You're not supposed to scrub plasti-dip, it will force the stuff right off. I also wouldn't recommend using anything past soap and water, dip doesn't really accept any sort of other cleaning chemical.

Painting chrome is just like painting stainless trim or aluminum. You must prepare it properly. People who say you cannot do it, do not know of what they speak. You must be willing to spend the time and effort preparing the metal properly, via sandblasting or hand sanding. Then using a quality self-etching primer. Check out my shop at Copobrothers.com, if you think i'm full of it. Not only have I painted chrome bumpers, but I paint stainless trim and grills all the time. I treat chrome like I would treat any other metal that I wanted to paint, with meticulous, overkill preparation. That's why everything we do is top notch. When a paint job fails it is do to lazy, shoddy work. Anything, can be done.

There is an S-10 drag truck, and a Chevy C-10 plow truck on that site that both have black painted chrome bumpers.

To make paint stick to chrome u have to have a mechanical (sanded) and a chemical bond (an etch primer). Chrome is hard to get paint to stick to but of process is done right u will have no problem. I've done many of chrome bumper/ grilles and never had a problem. I personally have used 180 to sand chrome (uses up sAndpaper because it's hard material ) and then blow off wax and grease remove. And use an acid etch primer so it bites into chrome. And the
U can either paint regular with automotive paint or rattle can. If ur gonna use a rattle can I prefer the rust oleum brand.
