Dumb question- I was changing the rear diff fluid and dropped the spare to make room. I could not figure out how to release the cable from the spare. Not wanting to waste a bunch of time, I just pushed the cable and tire to one side. Now I am planning a road trip and need to know how to get the tire free. I tried a few times fiddling with it, looked for a YouTube video, but not having luck. I know it must be simple. Thanks

On my 2012 it works like this, I had a 2001 and it was similar...

at the top of the post, you will see, above the T that the rim rest on, a part that you can press in from the side this allows you to rotate the T up and to the side so that it lays flat and can pass it through the center of the rim .....

I feel dumb. I finally lowered the tire again, and kept squeezing the handle thinking something was supposed to release. Kept squeezing and squeezing, waiting for the whole assembly to pop off and separate. FINALLY figured out the cup slides over the top of the assembly and slips over the top through the wheel hole. Please give me the address to return my man card.
