For anyone that wants to paint the stock vents, or replace them with Escalade or smooth ones. Here is how they come off.

On the top left there is a 7mm bolt and the bottom left is a metal tab/clip.

On the right there are 3 tabs that tuck under the side window.

Once you take the bolt out you are going to pull hard and straight out as you stand directly behind the truck to get them off.

Here is what it looks like under them.

Here is the back side of the stock vent.

The Street Scene smoothies don't have the bottom left tab for some reason so I used 3M double sided tape in its place.

Here are the new smoothies in their place.

also if you are real serious about SPL and have a huge system and want to get louder I took mine off to take out the air vent and then I put some Second Skin Damplifier over it so no air was leaking out.
It is a little different now when you shut the doors because the pressure stays inside but it is much louder.

Nice write up I wish I would have seen this when i started.
the key is to pull away from the tahoe in a few tugs.

I like the vented look over smooth. I keep Back to Black on them so they blend in perfect with the tinted windows.

I do want to take out the rubber flappers.. sick of them farting to the bass.

I know bringing this back from the dead....
Is there any ill effects to covering those so air does not leak? I hate the sound those things make on my truck but I have been leery about covering them. Why are they there in the first place?
