Just get a LOK-ITT steering column lock. Its a protective metal collar along with a bar that covers the ign key switch and acts like a club preventing steering wheel from turning when the bar is locked on.
The p250 will fit all GM trucks and SUV's from 95-06

Upgrading Factory alarm

I have been looking at the other aftermarket alarms to integrate with the factory and they are nice, but not as nice as to drop almost a 1G for them.

I was thinking, since the alarm does not go off when the windows are broken and the culprits can drive it away, to hide a magnetic reed switch for the steering column and connect it with a three way switch in series with the front door switch. The switch is used to put back in a normal circuit after you enter the vehicle or the DIC will say constant door ajar.

So, when the vehicle steering is turning the reed switch will break its plane and act as if the door was open. I am going to have to think more on this.

Another ideal was a three wire shock sensor with power and ground. The third wire will deliver voltage to a coil of a relay, the relay will have a 12v and ground for a inside 120db piezo alarm. Only problem is when the alarm sounds, you may have to be present to disable it or it may run you battery dead.

Anyone have ideas

Any idea why my 09 has a steering wheel lock?
Am I the only one here with a steering wheel lock? And I freaked out because I couldn't get my damn key to turn over... then I realized I had to turn the wheel to unlock the key ignition. It might not be a bad idea to lock the wheel anytime I park in a sketch area

If people want your car (or anything) bad enough, they will get it. You can slow them down but that's about it. I installed stereos and alarms for a number of years, we tried a LOT of things and it really doesn't do anything but give the owner piece of mind. Most crimes are crimes of opportunity. You'd be amazed what locked doors alone will do to keep a thief moving. But like I said, if they want it bad enough they will get it. Think the club works? I can't tell you how man steering wheels I saw cut on one side to pop the club right off. Got an alarm? Many can be defeated by the parking lights and using the alarm against itself. That doesn't work? Set the alarm off a half dozen times until the owner comes out and puts it in valet mode. ALready have steering wheel lock? Give it a good tug and it snaps. I was sitting in my back yard one time when two guys rolled up and did that to my neighbors car. Had it running in <20 seconds. Got a padlock on your steering column lock? I've got a pop can that'll take care of that. Like the story said, Give them an indication it will take longer than they want to spend and don't give them a good opportunity and you've done as much as you can.

This is scary for sure. I think where this story is coming from in Detroit, if they want your car, they will just drag you out of it and take it.
