Ok, day 2 and went for a 50 mile drive. The system is beginning to feel better and a little more confident standing on the pedal. Did some research last night on hydroboost setups overheating. Most hardcore rockcrawlers and trail rig guys are definitely using a cooler. But they also say that a lot of heat build up is caused from a poor circulating return line. I was looking at my return line and the T-fitting I made more closely. It seems that the T was causing a bottleneck in the hose from a steep bend that is produced. I shortened the hose some more and reconnected the T fitting to fix this. Fluid is still somewhat hot, but not as bad as before. I think I might have to find a more free flowing solution for a T connection. Maybe one where the nipples are shorter thus making less of a kink in the bend of the return line. Anybody have any worth while setups of T-fittings that they can post a pic of here?

good intel Blue.

you may be ok with your current setup under normal driving habits...do you have any way to measure the temp of your fluid after your truck has heated up?

Unless I missed something here I don't recall hydro-boost setups using a t-line adapter in the system.

They don't. This is done to bypass the need to replace the steering pump lines IIRC.

You are very close...it's so you don't have to replace the entire steering pump itself. (if my research so far is correct)

Absolutely correct! The T fitting idea made me nervous when I first researched it myself. But the lines that are joined are only the low pressure return lines bringing the fluid back to the pump. The return coming from the HB only drips fluid back to the pump and when you press the brake, it returns about a tablespoon worth of fluid.

The big concern which I have found is making sure the return line coming out of the steering box is clear from any obstructions or deep curves. If I had a more conservatively sized T-fitting I don't think the fluid would get so hot.

As of now I think the only way I can measure my reservoir temp is to stick a cooking thermometer in it. If I get around to going to the grocery store maybe I will report back with some temps.

unknown at this time.
I would just use what was the line that was designed for it and perhaps splice in an extra cooler on the return side. T-fittings just seam cheapish.:imo:

Good luck sparg! Definitely post some pics and results after. Hopefull you can do that brake test you have been meaning to do after it is complete. Curious to see the result since you are running 3/4 ton calipers. After reading your past threads I just bought 1/2 ton calipers because I didn't think I was going to do the hydroboost anymore. You around Northern Jerz btw? Would definitely be interested in meeting up to compare setups and feel.
