Track the fluid ounces of oil captured and the miles driven. This will give you a long term view of the catch can's functioning. After 14,000 miles of tracking, I'm averaging just under 1 fluid ounce of oil captured for every 1000 miles driven.

what would you recommend?
5-30 should be sufficient, that's what we put in the wife's 16 and it has been fine since then. We bought it used with just a hair under 100k and it used about 2qt's between oil changes with 0-20. It needed a good intake cleaning as well. it's been pretty solid otherwise.
the 18 silverado i have (same engine as the suv's) has about 65k on it, doesn't use a drop of oil and I drive the hell out of it.

So should we all change to 5-30 with 2019 YukonXL 5.3? Mine has 105K miles and I don't have 'any' oil loss between changes

if you have no oil loss then I wouldn't worry about it.
my assumption is that over time each engine develops it's own tolerances, were talking micrometer's
just like not every engine has the exact same problems, there are more common things that are known to occur and less common.
it often has a lot to do with how the vehicle is driven, how often the oil is changed, etc, etc
or karma just happens....... maybe it was built on Monday or a Friday, so on and so forth

This is mine after 5000 miles some of which were at 85-90 mph and being in teens and single digits. Engine has 290,000 on it. 20250114_121914.jpg
