Yea its close you have to figure the cost for the gears and all the labor involved Esp for the front axle its a pain , Depending on your location in the US it can be cheaper or lower I would get at least one other estimate before you get them

thats a bit high if you ask me.

compare your prices on parts with http://www.ronsmachiningservice.net/

both the gears, diff, and install i have priced out at $600 for the 4.30's from there

the local 4 wheel parts here charges $450 for install on rears and they are gonna be on the high side of prices. so thats about $1100 total including fluids which is 1/3 less than that price you were quoted. are they pricing you with an aftermarket front diff as well? i don't see how gears fluid and install for the front is over 1500. although i don't have as much knowledge on replacing front gears.

IMHO again depending on location Prices for Labor Vary from state to state , I know that In NC for instance I was quoted about $300 dollars less on labor on average for a Trasnmission Replacement .

I remember Someone at a off road event tell me that Regearing the front axle on most IFS trucks are a PITA, because of the space issues .

I would guesstimate about $1200.

You could save money on labor if you pull a front axle from the junkyard and swap them out yourself.

I was quoted about $1000 per axle here in Michigan from a guy that normally gives me a good rate, that was just parts and labor, no new axles.

This is the email from the shop doing the work.

Attached is the estimate for you 456 Gear. Rob says the estimates are to completely re-build the Front and Rear Diff's. Bearings and gears ONLY! Before order the parts needed, he recommends opening up both differentials to check the Planetary Sun Gears for wear and tear. He wants to make sure they're okay to re-use, due to the mileage on the truck

Uh Yeah, find another shop. The diffy's dont use planetary sun gears. Just a ring and piniongear in addition to the axle and spider gears.

Thx for all the replys.. I called around and every place was quoting me about the same amt. I guess things up here in Chicago just cost more.

Also he calls spider gears also planetary sun gears so I guess you guys are talking about the same thing.
