I think this would be the right place to ask?

Dear Tahoe owners,

Sorry if these are dumb questions, and/or the wrong place to ask, but I am gonna give it a shot anyway.

I have kind grown apart from all this sports car as a daily driver thing, and need something more rugged and well; practical.

My dad have had his 2006 Escalade since new, and never had a problem with it, and my boss has a 1995 Tahoe that has over 300.000 Miles on it, and only things that has ever been fixed/replaced on his is the water pump and alternator. And both cars starts in what ever weather you through at them and goes through pretty much whatever terrain you give them too.

So that has made me want to get a Tahoe, especially a Z71 model or package ...or whatever. Looking to get like a 2005 model.

Anyway; my question is; since these are only two cases; are there any common problems or factory flaws or something that I should be aware of with these cars?

I know the interior is not really the tahoes strong side, but I don't really care much for that.

Another question; Does anyone know what the Z71 trim/package included on a 2005?

I have been told that it included:
- Electronic Locking rear diff.
- Skid plates.
- Off-road suspention
- Wider fender flares
- Steel side steps.

Is this right, and/or are there anything missing in the above?.

And by the way; sorry about all bad grammar and spelling. English isn't my first language. I hope the above is understanderable though, otherwise let me know if something doesn't make sence and I will try to reformulate it. :)

First off ur english and grammer is better than most. Lol but I have only my tahoe for about 7 months but haven't ran into many problems at 155000 miles. Interior is all leather and no complaints. I have an 03 z71. As far as the package I believe u prenty much covered it to my knowledge. Wouldn't say "wider" fender flares but it does have plastic flares over each wheel well and also cladding (plastic) along the bottom with nerf bars. Overall you would be making a great decision with getting a tahoe. I love mine

I believe edmumds.com goes into great detail about bells and whistles of each available package, they also have some pretty accurate and seemingly non-biased reviews. Check them out if you haven't already done so.

Yeah, I did stop by them. I just didn't know how reliable they were. I have been searching around and checked out alot of sites, but I wanted to hear it from the owners as well.

My first car was/is a 1994 Ford Mustang V6, and if I had asked on a forum before I bought it, I would never had bought it...EVER! Maybe the new ones are good ..I don't know ..but my 1994 is absolute rubish!

Thats the thing about hearing it from the owners and not just someone whos getting payed to recommend brands to consumers. (No offence to edmunds.com)

So this time I will be sure to do my research right and get all the possible knowledge I can about the car before I buy one. :)

Welcome to the Forum. And, as previously mentioned, your English is great. I know what you mean by it not being your first language, as I am from Germany and have now lived in California for 22 years.

I have a 2006 GMC Yukon, which is pretty much the same as a Tahoe and I love mine as well. I do not believe you can go wrong with a Tahoe if you do your research and shop accordingly.

Good luck shopping and keep us posted.

I would say the only thing to look out for is, with the higher mileage of an 05, some steering components may need to be replaced due to them just being worn out. THings like the idler arm and pitman arm. Also, you will more than likely notice the steering wheel vibrate from time to time. Do a search on the site here. It's a very common issue with the grease in the intermediate shaft. There are a couple different remedies for it, but most people don't bother messing with it.

Thanks man. :)
I am actually looking into finishing my Bachelor degree overthere, and taking an MBA afterwords. Just want to get away from this place.
