On my 2000 hoe its started making a knocking noise at idle I know its not internal. I'm pretty sure its a tensioner or something could it be the compressor? I'm pretty sure when I had the motor replaced the tensioners weren't replaced. Its been doing it for about a week and a half now

If you can get a mechanic's stethoscope and listen you can pinpoint the source of noise. If you do the tensioners and idler then get the AC Delco brand at Rock Auto and if belts are old enough then do them at same time and use the Goodyear Gatorback belts, IMO.

Does sound like that or the tensioner that is under more stress when the compressor is engaged.

I'll try replacing the tensioner first they probably need replacing anyway. The Ac is still cold though so idk it doesn't seem to cut in and out

Take your serpentine and the A/C belt off and start the engine for a few seconds. If the noise is gone you know it`s one of the pulleys or the compressor. Then spin all the pulleys by hand, If they`re not dead silent and wobble a bit that`s the noise maker. But the noise without tension on a pulley won`t be nearly as loud when the belt is on.

When my A/C tensioner pulley went i just replaced the belts tensioners and idler while it was apart.

I also pulled the serpentine belt and ac comp belt and it quieted down there's still a little noise though not sure what it is oil is clean as a whistle have mobil 1 in it. May be valve noise but the rattle was defiantly quieted down

It`s tough to tell where it`s coming from but i have heard a similar noise when the flex plate is cracked. Do you have any odd noises when starting your engine? It`s easy to check by pulling off the inspection cover on the transmission.

I've had the starter get stuck a couple times and I know the shop that done the engine used the wrong torque converter bolts I found that out when I had the trans rebuilt. To me it sounds like it's coming from the bottom somewhere. Sounds like I should pull the inspection plate and take a look at the flywheel. What should I notice upon inspection
