Mine doesn't work either which is an iPhone 4 (32gb) BUT for some reason my girlfriends iPhone 4 (16gb) DOES work... We are both on iOS 5 and non-jail broken.... I called tech support from coastal tech and they weren't helpful at all. I asked if I could update the firmware on the lock pick and they said no. Sucks...

No it isn't perfect but the only thing on the market with so many features and ipod control. Hopefully a future firmware update will fix some of these annoances. I have noticed that you HAVE to manually disable NAV in Motion even after you turn the car off and back on. The menu will say "off" but I've found turning it on and back off will fix the NAV issues most of the time.

On the topic of ipod control. Is there a way to change tracks with the wheel controls while playing MP3s stored on the ipod/iphone? I can pause and navigate the menu but I can't figure out how to change tracks.

On my iPhone I can't do it but on my iPod Classic 120gb I can change the tracks. So inconsistent...

Regarding firmware, I would like to think some issues would be fixed in the future. The question just becomes how far into the future.

My current firmware shows as 1.4z when I scroll through the menu options. I only see 1.3 on the USB Update page Coastal has. This makes me feel less confident in the company and quality of the product. Are these guys serious about what they release or is it just a "we have the best option" kind of deal?

Like one of the prior posts, the more I try to use this thing, the less I like it. It makes me appreciate my simple at-home bypass I was able to do on my Pioneer X930BT in my older vehicle, almost to the point where I wonder if it would have been a better idea to have the aftermarket system than the factory nav. It for sure would have been cheaper.

Again, you just don't expect to feel this way about something you drop nearly $300 on.

I have the GMX 550 and VCIM bluetooth swap in my 07 Tahoe LTZ with NAV and rear DVD. I have noticed some of the minor issues discussed here. Primarily with the GPS. I am also having a problem with video streaming. My Iphone 3gs streams videos saved on the phone no problem, but unfortunately I have been unable to get video streaming with some of my apps Netlix/HBOGo/NFL Sunday ticket. Anyone else had this issue?

On another note has anyone noticed that the XM tabs on the favorite menu go from the station name(ie Hip Hop Nation) to the XM number(ie XM 101) once the LP is installed?

BTW I have had to recently reinstall the LP after taking it to the dealership for some warranty work (got a new Nav unit out of it). The first install was above the VCIM which I do not recommend. Thanks to this thread the second install went behind the glove compartment right next to the XM unit. The wires provided by Coastaltech are easily long enough to achieve this. I would highly recommend anyone who is installing this unit to place it here. Much easier than stuffing it under the radio and causing problems with your AC controls.

oh and is the glove box easy to remove? i put mine under the flap near the gas pedal, fits great there and has easy access for updates (if there were any)...

Glove box does not have to be removed... You squeeze the back of it and it releases down out of the way.

Nope that's what I thought too. When I talked to Coastel Tech about a firmware update they said no they don't do those.

So I found this thread in google after having some issues. I have a 2007 Escalade (Late 2006 manufacture date) with factory nav and the rear entertainment option from the factory. I have been having some issues with the GMX550 formware revision 1.4z. First off I put in a GMX322 right after I bought the truck and it worked flawlessly for the 2 years I had it installed. I never even experienced the nav tracking issues after DVD in motion. The worst it ever was would be about a mile off and it would snap back to my current location in a few seconds. I have been dying for on screen iPod control and when I saw the GMX550, I figured the upgrade would be worth it, and since I never had any problems with the GMX322, I didnt hesitate to upgrade. Needless to say, I am second guessing this decision now. The sound out of the iPod dock connector is horrible. I have tried every EQ setting available on the iPod and my radio and it crackles with any bass at all even at low volume. The entire stereo is completely stock by the way. With CD audio, XM, and radio it sounds great. I drove to work this morning and everything was fine. Getting in the truck after work, the radio wouldnt turn on. A few back and forth turns of the key and I finally got it to power up. Pulling out of the parking lot, the OnStar icon came on the screen and the radio went silent then started to feedback horribly. (I have never activated the OnStar in the time I have had the truck) The next thing I hear is the lady asking for a number to dial. Hitting the phone button on the mirror to hang up and right away it came on again. It proceeded to sporatically do this all the way home. All Lockpick features were off during this time. I got home and got out of the car and the radio went back into OnStar and would not turn off with the key out and door open. I finally got it to turn off and armed the alarm and went inside. I came back out 30 minutes later and the radio display was on again. I pulled the lockpick out and looked at all the harnesses for frayed wires but found nothing. I put the GMX322 back in and all is back to normal. I will be calling Coastal Tech tomorrow to see if they have any answers about the erratic behavior and the iPod sound quality.

Sorry for the long winded first post, but I am looking for any answers at this point as well as to share my experience with anyone looking at this unit. Hopefully they get the bugs ironed out with a firmware update soon. If not I am hoping for a refund and sticking with the less feature rich but stable device.

My Lockpick sucks too. I have the gmx550 in my 07 avalanche and 07 escalade and the sound quality is just as you describe it. Also, i'm on my 2nd unit in the avy. Within 65 days from date of purchase [for the avalanche], my LockPick unit caused my factory nav radio to completely shut off. A full black/blank screen with no digital clock display. When I brought it to the professional audio shop that also sells this unit (I bought mine seperately from Amazon.com from Net Electronics LLC) but installed mine, they tested it out and determined that the lockpick was dead and it singlehandedly shut down my factory nav. Since the radio would only work WITHOUT the lockpick, I took it out. I called Net Electronics and explained word for word what I just said above. They told me to issue a refund/exchange, I would have to call Coastel Tech, talk to a "specialist", and troubleshoot the issue. Once they saw the problem they would then give me an "okay" for a replacement unit. I re-iterated that the unit had already been un-installed which I paid to get done because their unit broke after only having it for a few weeks and that there was no way I was doing all of that. They said: "Well call CoastelTech and try to explain it to them and ask them to give an ok for your exchange". When I called CoastelTech per NetElectronic's instructions, they said "we don't give permission to 3rd party companies selling our product for exchanges"....... I was like WTF? After a back and forth for a few hours, I decided to claim an "A-to-Z Guarantee" through Amazon. Within minutes I got an email from Net Electronics saying that a replacement was on the way. I dealt with all this ASIDE from the unit itself sucking.

So TL;DR -- Aside from unit sucking itself, the vendor, and 3rd party vendor from Amazon (Net Electronics), SUCKS. Their product is buggy and their support is horrendous. STAY AWAY.

EDIT: You also mentioned a firmware update. I had called their tech support once before about my iphone not outputting the video and if their was a firmware update that I could be missing. He said they don't release firmware updates... EVER. So there you have it... no firmware update.. How ****** is that?
