Hey everyone,

Sorry if this is a repost, but I checked the master how-to and searched. If anyone knows a link to a thread that has this info, that's be great.

I have a stock 2002 Chevy Tahoe the only thing I've changed is the head unit on the stereo. It is LT and has auto everything. I want to install a remote starter and install it myself, but can't find a manual or list of things I need. I know i need the remote starter kit (suggestions welcome) and the Xpresskit XK06, but are there any other wires, etc.? If you could also tell me where I can find a wiring/installation guide and/or step-by-step how-to I'd be very grateful. Thanks again.

are there any specific features you are interested in? there are add-on units that use the factory remote to activate (very low range), single button start only units with up to 1500' range, keyless entry/remote start, alarm/keyless/remote start, 2way confirming single button, keyless, and alarm/rs, and smartphone control r/s.

some brands/units will have positive lock outputs that will not require additional relays for the locks on your truck, and the passlock2 system can be bypassed with a relay and resistor as well to save some $.

a module like the dball (more expensive and needs to be flashed to your vehicle's firmware) will make the install easier by controlling several functions like immobilizer, locks, tach signal, door triggers, RAP shutdown (for if the runtime expires or you manually shut down, the accessory circuit will not stay on and drain the battery). depending on the type of system you choose, all of these may not apply.

regardless of system, make sure you connect the white 2nd ignition wire before you test/finalize to prevent transmission damage.

there is additional info at http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/vehicles.html if you want to see some different wording of wire locations.

also most nice brands send a pretty detailed instructions manual. So if you can just find all the wire codes you need its not too bad. The only reason i let a store install it is for the warranty

Are you just wanting a remote start? Or an alarm/remote combo?

Oh wow, remote start. I'll throw in my 2 cents. The aftermarket remote start died on my 03, so I found the wiring diagrams for the old one, and bought a new one online. I matched up all the wires on paper so I knew just which ones the new one would need, figured it would be easy, just swap out the old one, put in the new one. I already had the passlock bypass box and auto door lock relay installed from the old one. It was awful!! I'm very handy with electronics, and this was one of the worst projects I ever took on! Even after I got everything put in, the passlock was messing up and it wouldn't stay running. I finally got it figured out, but it took me about 6 hours. I swore I would never ever take on a remote start again!!! (I know you are still going to do it, but I'm reserving the right to say "I told you so"!)
