I know a couple of y'all have changed your intake manifold gaskets- the info I can get from autozone and napa on their kits is limited to say the least - I'm looking at autozone PN MS98016T, the better of 2 felpro sets.

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/pa...xym?counter=1&itemIdentifier=217565_259699_0_

The description says it includes the lower intake- do they mean the lifter valley cover (which I want and need) or are they referring to something else? The lifter valley cover gasket is not shown in the illustration. Autozone says they cannot get the valley cover gasket on its own so if its not in the kit, I'm screwed.

Does anybody know what the difference is between the $73.99 intake kit and the $38.99 kit (PN MS92211 )? I can't even look at these kits on the felpro site- its worse than autozones..... grrrrrrrr.....

Trying to remeber which kit i bought. I think i bought the cheaper one. As i remeber the more expensive one came with a bunch of gaskets i wasnt going to need. I dont recall any valley gasket. These intakes are nothing like doing a 5.7 intake. The plastic intake bolts to the heads . Thats it. You pull the 8 or 10 bolts out and disconect the fuel injectors and your about done. Once the intake is off the knock sensors and harness are right there for ya. Do have a bungy cord handy, works great to hold the rear harness out of the way for ya.

The difference between the two part #'s you gave is one is an older style with all plastic surrounds...the more $ one is the one you want. When you take your current one off you will see how it snaps onto the intake. The new style sits on the motor and you drop the intake on it.. totally different but MUCH better style. DON"T get the plastic ones - you'll be back at it again!

Thanks- I'm trying to fix an oil leak, not a runnability problem so unfortunately, removing the intake is only necessary to get where I need to get to (top and back of the block). I've given up trying to get back there with everything in place. If I was sure it was the oil pressure sensor leaking I could change that without pulling any other parts but it doesn't seem to be the leaky part. Since the lifter valley cover is one spot where the oil could be coming from on the back of the block (and its a cheap and easy gasket to replace) I want to get it too while I'm in there.

I'm going by a buddy's repair shop tonight. He swears if he puts it up on a lift he'll be able to tell me exactly where the leak is coming from. That'd be great and save me $150-200 in parts but I'm not as confident as he is that he'll see where the leak is......

Like they say, if it has wheels or t*ts, sooner or later it'll give you problems.

10-4. Thats what I thought from some of the posts I searched. Thanks for the confirmation.

I took the truck to my buddy's shop last night, we put it on the lift and spent about 15 minutes poking around. He had no idea where the leak is coming from. Kept bouncing back and forth between the main rear seal- which I don't think- and the oil pressure sending unit/cam position sensor.

I'm getting the parts together to do the top half gaskets/seals. He said if it is the rear main all I have to do is pull the tranny to get at it but thats easier said then done when you are doing this at home instead of on a lift in a shop. If I have to pull the tranny I might as well put a rebuilt 4L80 back in with the mileage on mine (190+ miles). There is no cheap way of doing this...... Arghhhh...

The saga continues.....

DOH!! FYI the 4L80 is not a direct swap..

I haven't counted the bolts on the drain pan but according to the service manual and the bolts I had to remove to pull the oil pan last weekend its got the 80 and not the 60. I'll check the pan and confirm next time I get under there. I did a google for what a *good* rebuilt will cost and I lost interest in that anyway. I'm not replacing that tranny until it is good and dead for the money they want! ($2-3K)
