8 Gauge, with the gain and db all the way up....One of the techs at best buy told me to turn it all the way up because he said "you dont want to under power your sub". I got to cap hoping it would help out with the lights dimming.

Ok, so I tuned it. Gain and db to about 5/8 and no more overheating of the amp. Everything sounds great! But when I turn up the volume the all my lights still dim....Should I get a new battery? Yellow or Red top?....I thought by get a cap it would have solved this.

Try this also, turn your volume up to the highest you think you will ever have it when the lights dim, then readjust your gain, does your amp have a bass boost knob if so turn it down and see if you can get what you like without using it and without havign the open all the way up

x2^^ i think the "db" he said he turned down, might be the bassboost. If so turn that down, get rid of the cap, and get the 4 gauge you should be okay. I had 2000rms running off my stock 130 amp alt with 0 gauge wiring with no dimming. Make sure your ground is scraped down to bare metal also.
