Like the title says, I bought a 1999 ESC. A few weeks ago. Had a blown head gasket and a few ignition issues. Got that done. Now its running nice and smooth so I can really here the aggravating stuff. There is a steady clicking sound coming from what sounds like the front wheels somewhere. A horrible grinding noise when slowing down that winds down with speed. A slight roar upon acceleration that goes away when I let off of the accelerator. I've installed brand new hub/bearing assemblies.New rotors and pads. Fluid was low in the transfer case so I drained it out, looked brown and nasty, put new Auto Trak fluid in. No improvements. Any suggestions?

Oh yeah, I have tried a different wheel and tire combo.

When you stated the fluid was low was it black and did it have a burnt smell?

Also how is the Diffs looking?

Inspect you exhaust pipes for leaks on the roaring sound or see if the induction silincer has been removed as a mod by someone else. And for the grinding noise also drain and inspect the fluid in you front and rear differentials as well. U-joint's as well. Between those and the t-case fluid you might find signs like metal debris that may clue you in.

Will do this Saturday for sure. The fluid was a brownish maybe blackish color. Not really burnt but smelled like old gear oil.

The silencer and exhaust looks great. I'm really leaning to drive train but not sure.

What idid when I got my 98 was simple drop it at the shop and told them to replace all the fluids completely and fix any leaks you find!

True the bill was high but I am ok with that less action if I may say

Yeah I will probably drop it off at the shop and do the same. I'm somewhat of a mechanic but the guy I use is one of our buddies who also does work on our hot rods to so trust is priceless there. I'm not real knowledgeable on 4wd stuff but I've always loved the mid-90's GM trucks so I thought it was time to get one. I paid $2300 for the truck. Feel like that was a good deal. Just want to take all the Cadillac emblems off cause I'm really not into "bling".

The fluid in the trans case was brown/black?

Yes the fluid appeared to be toast.
