Preparing to go on my annual hunting trip soon and I always hide a key in the frame rail. Just to make sure, I always lock the doors and then use the key I'm hiding to unlock the door, just to make sure it works. Did that yesterday and now my key fob isn't working properly. Sometimes it will lock the doors and then I can unlock the drivers door, but when I press the unlock button twice, it will not unlock all other doors like before. After that, sometimes it won't work at all. The key I have on the key ring with the key fob I'm having trouble with still works in the ignition and Yukon starts and runs fine. I tried the resynchronize process in the owner's manual, but that doesn't work. Any ideas on what could be the problem and how do I fix it? Thanks. 2002 GMC Yukon XL 2500 with the 6.0.

try a fresh battery for the fob, the fob won't stop you from doing anything btw. It's just for convenience

I think the fob battery is a CR2025. You can likely get them from Walmart, locally, if you do not want to order online. Amazon does carry them, however. Regardless, the pricing isn't too bad -- excepting for inflation. I bought a 100-pack a few years ago, and just used the last one in September, this year.

I replaced the battery in the fob, but still now working properly. I still cannot get it to re-synchronize with the vehicle after a new battery in the fob and following the steps in the owners manual. Thank you for the assurance on the fob not causing any issues. I appreciate your help.

you could try cleaning the fob contacts, open it up and take the board and clean it with rubbing alcohol or even wd40 or contact cleaner and see if that helps
if not it may be time for a new fob, sometimes the rubber buttons get worn out to and won't make the correct pressure on the board

I will try cleaning the contacts tomorrow. I have a second key fob and key for this Yukon that has always worked. I tried using it after the fob I normally use didn't work correctly, but it doesn't work at all now. That leads me to believe that something is wrong in the programming. I may be wrong. I appreciate your help.

if you reprogrammed one then it erases the other one, you have to do them both in one sitting. that's a security thing

Yes, I tried the re-programming this evening. I got my normal key fob to program to the Yukon, but the second key fob would not program. Also, my normal key fob still isn't working correctly. There seems to be another issue with it. Any ideas? I also cleaned the contacts on the fob but still doesn't work properly.
