these are keys from a 03, 04, 12 the groove is slightly deeper on the newer key, none are chipped, GM uses a HAL sensor in the ignition housing at least on these trucks they do.

Well, do you know about programming the fobs? Can it be done with an obd scanner? Apparently the 2010 models can be done yourself, but everywhere I have read so far says you need to take an 11 to a dealership. I was hoping that they just plug it in to a scanner, but I have no clue.

2011+ has to be done by a dealer or locksmith, my understanding is that the security protocol was upgraded so it's not longer something you can do yourself.

I just called a chevy dealership near me and they said they keys have to be programmed...I asked if they had a chip, and she didn't say, but she just said that new keys have to be programmed. BUT, she said it would be $140 for 2 keys and 2 fobs after taxes.

ok if it has a (+) symbol on the metal part then it is chipped, however programming the replacement key can be done yourself, no need to pay anyone for programming the key.

I programmed an Amazon key fob to my 2011 Yukon using a Snap-on OBDII scanner last Friday. 2 minutes and it was up and running. If you have access to relatively new Snap-on scanner you can do it on your own. No locksmith or dealer needed. I plan on making a thread on it with screenshots.

Basic OBDII scanners will not be able to access the Keyless system. It will need to be an advanced scan tool with dealer level functions.

I do not have access to one of those. I will ask around though.
