Keyless entry

I have the window sticker for my 2001 Tahoe, it shows that it has “programmable locks”.

I am assuming that means it has Keyless Entry.

My in-laws did not get key fobs when they bought it new, so not 100% sure.

So I got a fob for it, but when I tried to get it into programming mode, I can’t get it to work.

Is there a quick way to look at either the fuse panel in the engine bay ir the drivers side to see if it’s actually equipped for it?

I have found that the receiver is in the dash behind the instrument cluster, but don’t want to dig that deep into it yet.

Any suggestions?

See if your RPO codes in the glovebox include "AU0"; that's the code for it in my '04.

You may need a Tech 2 scan tool.

I will look at the RPO codes and see.

There currently a few other electrical gremlins I need to look at, headlight switch isn’t working, the ac clutch won’t engage and the rear speakers won’t work.

Not too bad for a 20 year old rig really, I have seen a lot worse

Experience tells me the headlight switch is probably dirty; you can take it apart, carefully and clean it. If you have another truck, borrow it's switch and check. Good luck on the other stuff!

Are you having trouble getting the truck into programming mode, or trouble with the fob itself?

If you have an 01, make sure you have the correct fob. It should have “lock” and “unlock” words on the buttons, NOT lock symbols. Those are for 03-06 models.

I can’t get the rig to go into the “Program” mode to program the fob.

I don’t see AU0 on the RPO sticker.

Here is a photo of the RPO sticker as well a the drivers side fuse block.

From what I see, I don’t think it’s equipped with Keyless Entry.
