I'm pulling the intake manifold going after an oil leak (have to remove the intake to get the access I need to the back of the block). Should I be thinking about replacing the knock sensors while I have it off? 195K miles on truck, not sure if the sensors are original or not. I'd hate to not change them and have one fail on me in the next few months. I don't want to just throw money at the truck but are they generally prone to failure? Spend some money now, save a headache later???

In the brush near the river.
The sensors are about $30-$40. I don't think that it would be a total waste of money but I don't think it's a necessity either. With almost 200k, it's a roll of the dice.

With my luck I won't replace them and have a failure a month later.....:emotions122:

What is the saying, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure?"

I pulled mine with on 60k miles on my Hoe - but it has 5200 hours on it.

It just makes sense to replace them for $60 and not have that headache to worry about for a while.

You'll be chasing something else soon enough.

My vote is to replace. General rule: if its hard to get to and cheap to replace, replace it while youre there.

OK LISTEN THO! DO THEM and make sure u do the harness to
my buddy did the sensors in his denali and didnt do the harness
a week later his engine light came back on for the same thing he ripped it all apart again
and got ANOTHER new set of sensors, back together.. engine light came back on
ended up being the HARNESS!

Just a FYI

I have read that the harness gets brittle from engine heat. What the hell, its only money, eh? Just have to find one. Rock Auto only had parts of the harness, I don't remember if I saw the entire harness.....

That's the way I am leaning.... Not cheap if I get them from Autozone though. Might stall the job a week and get the parts shipped in from Rock.

I just purchased knocks, harness, intake and tb gaskets to do mine. All together was around $150 shipped, I see it being worth it to change the knocks and harness while you have it apart
