Well guys one last question, if I take my heads off do I have to worry about timing?? My guess is no right?

If you take the actual heads off youll need to remove the intake manifold meaning youll need to take out the distributor. If you take off the valve covers on top of the heads, then no.

Dahoe did you find any more info on the noise. MIne does it to. I think I remember seeing somthing on here about it is a common thing for our trucks to make the noise. I'm thinking lifters. I dont think on cold start there is enough oil up in the top end to keep them lubed. Maybe the other lifters are the way to go.

I didn't find anything, but I do have my heads apart and rollers do look a bit dirty, but pushrods a little bit bent. Another issue I have thoughis my head gaskets are saying its a 4.8 when my vin is saying its a 5.3 flexfuel. Who do I believe o_O

its a 2002 5.3 flexfuel according to the Vin and title. also on the rattle issue there is a post on here about how it can be a gasket from the oil pickup

haha im not gonna lie i did keep up with a hatch when i was leaving the track a couple weeks ago
