I'm trying to figure out why I don't get speeding tickets anymore. Oh, now I remember! I pay attention to the signs and don't blow past everyone.

Why? Nobody else does. Try not speeding in Chicago, Norfolk, or Salt Lake City. You'll succeed in getting rear-ended. I'd do the limit in Norfolk and Chicago and get passed like I was standing still. You'll need 15-20 over to make it in those locations. My experience in Virginia is that police won't cite you until you are 10+ over the limit, or at 81 mph (automatic reckless, a felony in Virginia). In Utah it's pretty much the same. They'll do 10-20 over. If you get rear-ended while driving the limit in Utah you could get a ticket for going too slow. Iirc, it's something like ”Failure to drive the flow of traffic.” My source on that is Detective Duffy with the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office. He said this several years ago in a Defensive Driving class I took to get a speeding ticket dismissed. Btw, reckless in Utah is 40+. That's a lot, but consider the limit for some stretches of I-15 are 80mph, you'd need to achieve 120 in order to get the reckless ticket.

He just called and said you need to remember that you're in Texas, and not Utah.

Utah has that law on the books because of how stupid people from out of state get when it snows. They're usually too fast, but sometimes too slow. The police realized they could use that all year due to the way it was written. Being from Texas you wouldn't know jack-squat about snow. Whatever ½ inch you get every 10 years fails to compare to the 500-600 inches (ski resort average, but what difference is 15 minute drive really going to make?) Utah sees annually.

I have been looking into jammers too as it's the only effective defense for laser. Radar/laser detectors are completely useless against laser because he's got you before you even know what happened. Jammers give you time to react and, in most cases, are totally invisible...cop just doesn't get a reading.
They also aren't as expensive as you guys think...you can get a decent one for around $500. Most 4 head units (what you should have for a large SUV) are $600-$800. I've been looking at the Blinder models and will probably move on one of those. Where I live, jammers are legal and in most places, because they double as a parking sensors they are allowed but you need a kill switch hidden. Our speeding laws have recently changed and are ********. Besides the $500+ fines and $1500 in extra insurance penalties, if you are caught doing 40km (25mi) over the posted limit they will impound your car for a minimum of 7 days. This is enough incentive for me to look into jammers. Our local law enforcement also exclusively uses laser now. No radar anymore.
If it's legal in your neck of the woods it is the ultimate defence against laser.

They are worth it in the longrun if u think about it. Lets say u can save 4 tickets in a year lets say each ticket is $250 it pays for itself in 2 years so id rather have something i can use then have shit on my record and give away loot... O and yea houston and dallas are the same peopel go over the limit and the cops dont care unless u got like way faster
