Not to challenge anyone here directly, I just have a question. Why are y'all bothering to lease? Especially when you are saying that in less than 4 years of leasing you'll be at MSRP in payments. Why not purchase the vehicle with that length of loan (or cash if you have it now), enjoy the 5 year/100k warranty, drive safely, and have an asset that is still worth something despite some depreciation?

The only reasoning I can think of for the decision to lease up to the MSRP is that you can have an extremely effective return of investment with the money that would be used to purchase, by instead investing elsewhere. Basically, instead of leasing a vehicle for funsies and being 53k (using the OP's number) in with no vehicle to your name in the end, you have that 53k now and are using a certain amount each month to lease the vehicle while the rest appreciates in an aggressive investment.

I see a whole lot about leasing on this forum, but never reasons. So, whatcha got? Again, for my own curiosity.

Thanks!

Agree, is what I do purchase ,because they want to limited you miles and the car have to be returned in optimum conditions. Next person will have almost new car.
Have my wife cousin he get already 9k miles in 4 month on a LTZ Tahoe is crazy he told me he regrets the lease agreement so bad.

There would be absolutely no way I could lease one. I'd be over milage in no time. I hit 17k yesterday and have only had it since April.

I do wonder why so many like to lease though.

Lol agree I have already 11k miles since April too. We travel a lot, absolutely no way. On my case I learn the hard way about lease.

There aren't many people who have the cash to buy a vehicle that's 50k or more, and they wont have the cash to invest if they do lease. Leasing is a way, generally, for people to get into a vehicle they can't afford to finance without a large down payment. I have leased a car or two years ago and wouldn't do it again unless I was a business owner, or able otherwise to take advantage of the tax advantages.

Leasing is benefitial for tax purposes - typically applicable to business owners.

Heck in some states, like TX, some of the really heavy vehicles even qualify for an extra tax write off as regards depreciation. I think, 20% can be written off in depreciation in first year.

I think it works for many urban drivers (granted, many city dwellers are probably not driving trucks like this). Limited miles, low(er) monthly payments and you get a new car every three years or so (less reliability issues even with urban driving that tends to take more of a toll on cars). Having lived in the middle of a large city for a number of years and leased cars and owned cars during that time, I can see how leasing would be the better option for many.

For me it's the convenience factor. I've leased every vehicle I have had and I have never had an issue with them. I get to beat up a cat for 2 or 3 years and it really care what happens to it. The one vehicle I owned had constant problems and was in the shop all the time. I simply jump from lease to lease. I never saw the point of buying a brand new car, however I personally think buying a slightly used car, 10 K miles, is the most effective way to purchase a vehicle and get the most for your money.
