Hi.

First post here. Have been lurking and reading through for a while.

I'm the second owner of my 96 Tahoe, since 2001, and it came with leather as far as I know. Thinking of changing my very tired seat covers and while trying to find the correct color I'm told my truck came with cloth from the dash sticker. Seems strange, but can someone confirm this please?

Thanks.

Welcome!

I have a GM RPO Master List that shows these 13D codes. I assume that the (96) suffix indicates the year (yours).

Your first code, AG9:

Also, some interior trim codes:

Seem right, or at least close?

i put some black and tan coverking seat covers on my 97. way better than the cheaper seat covers you buy most places. the seat and back feel great and haven't shifted yet. i haven't managed to get the arm rest the way i want it yet but i love the rest.

Thanks for the replies.

Yes Fless, It's all shades of grey :). Drivers seat does have 6 way, but front and rear seats are matching 'grey leather', all cloth is grey.

I was thinking of changing the lower leather covers myself with something affordable/cheap I saw on ebay and was hoping to get a close color match. The grey on eBay says it is dash code 132 and is what made me ask.

There should be some, I'll check when I have access again to the file later this evening. One of the nice things one can do is to get a RPO build sheet from GM for your specific truck.

Is there anyone who makes cloth covers (not just seat covers, but replacements) that would work with seat heaters and replacing leather?

The 1SB is for LS trim, which is cloth, and the 13D is the gray cloth.

The LT would be leather (1SC) and have 132 for the leather code.

Sport package BYP just required LS or LT trim.

Here’s more information than you’d probably ever need...

The leather covers were attached with hog rings and Velcro, so they are easily replaced. Cloth was glued to the foam so, yeah, that could be tricky with 20 year old foam.

The best giveaway for aftermarket leather over cloth is a loose and flat fit. Since it can move, it doesn’t last as long as leather properly attached to the seat cushion. The replacement armrest covers just slip on and have a zipper underneath. Factory ones do not, they’re pretty much glued on and not coming off.

When the vehicles are new and come with cloth--if they're swapped to leather, by the dealers, the cloth is taken off and the leather is put on. That's how it's supposed to be done. You could always look underneath the seat itself to see if the cloth is under the leather covers.

FYI, my truck has leather front and back. There is no cloth underneath, I have seen the driver side foam :)

I'm pretty certain the dealer must have done it. Guy I bought it from gave me everything, there's no mention of it. He told me what he'd changed on the the truck but never mentioned the interior.

I guess I need the 132 leather as that would been the only grey available.

Thanks for the help and info!

PS.
Duck tape is the perfect color for grey leather repairs! ;)
