We have an 04 Yukon XL with the 5.3 and the AC will not cool down without driving down the road. I've been told I need to upgrade to an electric fan setup to correct the problem. I have seen many threads here from people that have installed the fans but wonder if there isn't a cheaper way. Do i really need to have them wired through the PCM? I have seen many for sale with external thermostats. Any thoughts would be great.

Maybe it's just me but I'm done beating around bushes. I'd rather go out and do it the correct way to avoid having to do it again at a greater price or worse, damage my truck by getting cheap.. Better safe than sorry. IMO..

But.... If you wanted to do it on the cheap, you could just add a fan on the front of the condenser to push air and wire it to a relay and wire the relay to be triggered by the AC compressor so when the compressor kicks in so does the fan. Only problem with that is if the compressor cycles constantly so will the fan thus probably burning it up..

Why not? I've seen a lot of threads from this forum end up on others. The more info the better for all..

Only thing that might be an issue is the fact looks like the fans are single speed and don't know how efficient they'd be in hot weather and under AC pull. Looks like OP hasn't had a problem with them as of yet so who knows..

Thanks guys! I'd sure would like to know how it works out for you. Putting a fan on for just the AC is also a great idea.
Thanks again!

I made my own setup with Siemens/Ford fans, which are some of the best fans made. Actually quite funny, got Ford fans on my Chevy!! But I made my own setup, and have it hardwired to a switch. Will get it wired in to PCM soon, but I live in Phoenix, Arizona, and these fans work great. I actually just purchased an 2010 Silverado E-fan setup which I am probably gonna put on for the stock look. So... may be looking to sell my setup. Check out my picstahoe014.jpg
