Lifting 2012 LT 4wd CCM Bilstein Tire size

Got a 2012 4wd and been trying to figure out the best way to lift this and keep a nice ride. I had a 07 tacoma with the lift on bilsein 5100's but they lifted it 2.75" which was a decent lift along with 285-75-16 with trimming and it was an amazing ride and worked great. Looking for something similar.

The way I see it, the ccm 2.5/1.5 looks like the way Im going. Along with 285-70-17 tires. The shocks on the truck now seem ****** so I'm looking into shocks. The rear 5100's do not lift the truck (to my knowledge) so i'm going with those. Not sure what i'm doing up front yet.

Basically im just looking for input here. also wheel size I'm looking at getting 17" wheels with a 4.5" backspacing. from what I have read they will work. am I correct?

If i did the 5100s up front, I really shouldnt raise them due to axle angles. Correct?

Am I missing anything?>

heres a tire update. once i complete this research, install, i'll post a whole new thread about all this. pics, how to install, what to trim, blah blah.

i'm looking at the 305 55 20's (I do not want 20" wheels), but looking at the specs of the tire since Ziggy2079 has them on his ccm 2.5/1 kit and had to trim a little. i'm not worried about any of the trimming, just want others to be aware of it.

here are the specs on these tires

305 55 20

sidewall height: 6.6"
Sidewall width: 12.01"
overall diameter: 33.21"

Member Cleansweep on here has 295 55 20 on here which he says he also has to do some trimming Here are the specs on those

295 55 20

sidewall height: 6.39"
Sidewall width: 11.61"
overall diameter: 32.78"

Looks like 285 70 17 is the closest to not trim (possible trimming still) specs on these

sidewall height: 7.85"
Sidewall width: 11.22"
overall diameter: 32.71"


Now I wanted to run a tire in that similar size, but didnt want huge wheels and little tires, I like to run shit over and hit curbs without having to worry about scratching the wheels. I also take my trucks off road. also most tires in these random sizes come in a E load range which I've had E's before and they are super rough. I tow a boat, but a D load range is sufficient enough. Now looking at the 17" tire options found a 295 70 17 in a D load range

sidewall height: 8.13"
Sidewall width: 11.61"
overall diameter: 33.26"


according to my calculations the 295 70 17 is only .05" taller and .4" wider. I would be a little worried about it being wider, resulting to needing a smaller backspacing. On a 8.5" wide wheel, you are looking at a 4.75" backspace with 0 offset. so maybe I need a 8" wheel to make it a -6 offset with a 4.25" backspace. or a 1/4" spacer which I do not really want to run. worst case.

OK so here are the final results.. i'll post pics later.. i got the 17x8 wheels. 0 offset 4.75" backspaced. tires stick out minimal, with 295 70 17.. rides great. load range D is the way to go. However, I'm in need of trimming a lot more than I thought I needed to trim. Both front and rear rub, front rubbed pretty hard. I'm almost there, just rubs a little in reverse turned. Hopefully i dont need to move anything.. Hopefully I'll finish tomorrow and see whats up.

Yes just install the 5100s in the front with no lift. The rear 5100s will not provide any lift (make sure you get the ones with longer shafts to accommodate the spacers).

Looks like you got the tires/wheels sorted out except the trimming.

i'll grab some pics tonight. the 5100's only lift 1.75" so i doubt i will have enough lift to accomodate the bigger tires.. thats why I wanna put a 1-1.5" spacer on top of the 5100's or do ccm 2.5" spacer up front, then .5" level on the 5100s

I was not clear on my earlier post. From the experience of others on here, install the 5100 struts (bottom perch not adjusted for any lift) then the spacer. Do not go over 2.5" of front lift with just a level kit because the CVs will be at a steep angle.
