Excellent suggestions! Couldn't find a stainless model but the one I did buy was zinc so it should hold up but its not going to win any awards as the most secure. I bought a 5/8" length lock housing, I was surprised just how much room there is behind the gas door...(knock on wood)
Ill use a step drill and attack it when the lock gets here.
There is a back story for all this and it doesn't evolve people siphoning gas although that is an added benefit to putting a locking door on. I do park in some very remote areas in Alaska and people are just jerks plane and simple...reason enough but the tipping point was
My son's truck was vandalized the other night. He has placed decals/ stickers on his truck for the last few years that support law enforcement. A flag with a blue line, and a few others, one stating "Blue Lives Matter". I told him he could put stickers on the truck as long as they were tasteful and not political in nature because people are dicks and tires aren't cheep.
He placed these stickers on his truck well before the riots and police hate were a thing.
Someone tried to funnel sugar into his tank the other night, the evidence being very obvious. We dont know how much if any made it into the tank. Some kids from another HS
gave him grief about his choice in stickers during a car show hang out a day before...
We've ordered a locking gas door for my son and now Im trying to do something for the hoe. If someone wants to vandal or steal my gas bad enough they could do it pretty easily but the goal here is to deter someone from choosing our trucks and move to an easier target altogether. I think in choosing a deterrent I have to walk an affordable line and not go overboard but still say "Im to big of a pain in the ass to mess with."
During my search for locking gas doors I've seen a few that are so poorly made they scream "Vandalize" me!
Look at this junk!..
