If air adds weight, wouldn't we all, in theory, be crushed by all the air between our heads and the ozone layer?

Mass has weight. Air is mass. It is made up of oxygen, hydrogen, water molecules, etc. It weighs less than .1 lb per cubic foot. A tire has pressurized air so it has more weight than free flowing air like we breathe in. It might not be much but it has weight nonetheless. I'm no expert in physics though. It's probably not enough to make any significant difference in shipping cost. You might be better off filling it with hydrogen lol.

Well there you go ...

If you invest in a $10,000 vacuum forming machine big enough for tires you can save 2cents on shipping them wheels.

I don't think air has hydrogen in it. If it did, it would be water, no?

Air takes up space, but I don't think air is considered mass?

Damn... I hate Science.

It's mainly made up of nitrogen, oxygen, argon and carbon dioxide. But yes it does have some hydrogen, like less than 1%. That's why the air is humid in some areas and dry in others. Anyways, I think I was wrong. I don't think deflating it will make much difference, if at all. You're probably better off leaving it at least somewhat inflated to help absorb the abuse it'll take from getting tossed around )

Lol.. You googled that! I know because I did. :secret:

Air has less than .05% per million of hydrogen.

The air I just released apparently has a high content of sulfur.

It was actually Yahoo ) No but seriously, my gf is studying for medical school and is always throwing weird science trivia at me. I really don't like science, I'm more of a numbers guy. And I know air has water b/c it is very humid here in FL but I'm sure you already knew that.
