My father currently owns a well maintained 03 Denali with 195k miles. The truck runs great but will need some tlc in the future. Both rear exhaust manifold studs broke flush to the head and eventually those will have to get taken care of. The backing plates are long gone...front diff was rebuilt at 60k and now is making some noise. Fuel pump replace at 150k and water pump at 186k. The car has never been tuned up (plugs wires ect). Overall the truck has been great. We have been looking for a 08 to 10 Denali and keeping the 03 as a second car. How is the realiabiity on the new body? Would we be better off with a 09/10 vs. 08 due to 08 being the second year of the new body? We do a lot of driving as you can see and the 03 has served us well with normal maintence (oil changes, trans services, wheels bearings ect). Any help would be much appreciated.

im sure the nnbs guys will chime in but from my expierence ive always heard to buy a 3 or 4th year into a generation to give the companys time to work out kinks and fix them , as for reliability i havent heard anything to bad, its a machine like all machines they arent perfect most car companys are pretty good and IMO have the same quality as to stay competitive .... except ford they just suck lol again my opinion, i say go for it

The drivetrains are very similar so reliability will be about the same. Some parts are much better though, like the steering parts (mainly rack and pinion vs. recirculating ball + lots of linkage). Hub bears are about the same, especially if 4WD. I wouldn't even hesitate to buy an 07 as long as it's been taken care of and in good shape.

Only had my 07 for 3 months only 77k on it, but my dad bought a 07 Tahoe the year they came out and had it for 4 years and put 140,000 miles in it. Never had any major issues, was serviced regularly. Let's just say he drove it like he stole it and never had any problems.
