Loose steering wheel, like driving a boat

i am guessing this is in the right thread. I am having the dreaded loose steering wheel issue. The pitman arm looks good, i dont have much play in the wheels. I filled the PS pump up with fluid. Im not too familiar with the gear box since my other car as the rack and pinion setup. The Gear box does seem a bit old, i dont want to toss another one in if that is not the case. Is there anything i am overlooking that could cause this? Sensors or anything? It is a 96 tahoe 2wd LS

no sensors on yours. you either have play in the steering shat system or the gear box may be worn a bit assuming no wear in in the other components.

Interesting. The pitman arm does seem in tact. I ordered some new tie rods and links. I want to try to tighten the bolt slightly on the box to determine if it is a failing gear box. I seen it on youtube, I know it doesn't give the box much life afterwards but im prepared to get a new one of that is the issue.

There's a jam nut and a Alin set screw on the gearbox you can adjust to take the play out of the steering wheel I don't know which way to turn it but I have a 1999 yukon denali that had play in the steering wheel and it adjusted it for me

how are the shocks bad shocks will cause the symptom of loose steering
