You can always install your own locking rear diff. :)

I dont mean to thread jack, but I have a similiar noise when I have it in Auto 4WD. I can hear a whinning and clicking noise. I fear something expensive is right around the corner.

Same advice as above. Drive in 2WD unless you are in conditions where you may lose traction. Auto 4WD partially engages the front axle so when it's not in 4WD your front axle is not freewheeling like it would be in 2WD. Auto 4WD is NOT the same as full time 4WD or AWD.

I know my owners manual states only to use Auto 4WD in conditions where you may lose traction, dry pavement isn't one of them. ;)
