Just to give an update, The truck is now fixed with a junk yard case with around 120k miles on it. I was the victim of the infamous pump rub, found the hole the second I got it off.
Really not too bad of a job. everything came off fairly easily, except the top nut on the case, which was damn near impossible to get any kind of wrench on. Eventually got it with a socket with a swivel joint, but it was not easy. Slid it straght back, then tilted down to get off. No jack needed. I'm not a big guy, but with my wait under it I was still able to muscle it down, though a transmision jack would have helped. Getting the new one in took an extra person to help get the weight up while I slid it into place.
Also did the front U joints (still stock). Those plastic things suck.
New case shifts smoothly and works great!
Thanks for all the help.
