yeah its not difficult are you somewhat saavy when it comes to this stuf?
theres quite a few youtube videos that show you how as well
also id recomend enlisting the help of an extra set of hands
I'm pretty savvy. I did both front wheel bearings and a fuel pump this summer as well as lots of smaller stuff. I just get weary when it comes to pulling large drivetrain components off

dont get me wrong a transfer case is quite a job to replace but swapping out a differential is quite a bit more work mainly cuz it weighs a freakin ton

Just to give an update, The truck is now fixed with a junk yard case with around 120k miles on it. I was the victim of the infamous pump rub, found the hole the second I got it off.

Really not too bad of a job. everything came off fairly easily, except the top nut on the case, which was damn near impossible to get any kind of wrench on. Eventually got it with a socket with a swivel joint, but it was not easy. Slid it straght back, then tilted down to get off. No jack needed. I'm not a big guy, but with my wait under it I was still able to muscle it down, though a transmision jack would have helped. Getting the new one in took an extra person to help get the weight up while I slid it into place.

Also did the front U joints (still stock). Those plastic things suck.

New case shifts smoothly and works great!

Thanks for all the help.

Never had a problem with the top bolt using a standard length wrench using the 12 pt. box end. You don't get much throw with it but you can get a few turns out of it and then squeeze your hand up there to finger it off the rest of the way usually.

this happens with normal wear snd is nothing to freak about.

fix transfer case is very easy. one guy can do it. i did 4 way jack stands and used my floor jack to loer the broken unit and lift it back.
