Loud Four Wheel Drive?

Hey fellas -- this might be a stupid question, but my four wheel drive seems really loud to me over 25 mph. I have a 99 tahoe -- It goes from 2wd to 4whi without a problem and seems to work fine, but it's loud going down the road. Kinda like a wirring noise I guess -- it's hard to describe.

Thoughts?

Normal sound. Just the gears in the front axle turning.

LOL, i had the same problem.. When you go over 30MPH you will hear that sound and specially if you have new tire or off-road tire

Are you driving it in 4wd on dry ground?

No, roads covered with snow.

I'm gonna check the fluid.

Normal, you should be good to go! Theres just more stuff moving when in 4WD and you arent used to it. Shoot, Im in 4WD a lot and I still wonder for a minute about the sound lol

Really? 'cause mine is pretty quiet, to the point that after an offroad trip I drove 10 miles on pavement (all in a straight line, love farm country ) before I noticed a noise. It is very quiet all the time, but works very well.

Yup, mines always been had a sound to it. Its not loud loud just enough to know there is something going on. I did have an 88 bronco that was pretty quite though. Just sounds like stuff rotating under the truck
