I’ve been reading the posts regarding hesitation stuttering here. I have posted the same question.

A lot of you all say that hesitation and stuttering could be the mass air sensor.

I unplugged mine last night, went to start the truck it fired over then stalled out. Repeated this 3 times. The third time truck started and ran fine, I even throttled the truck in the driveway and it ran fine.

Dash light threw the traction control light steady on, but that was it. I didn’t read to see if there were any codes.

Reconnected it while the truck was running and it never even stumbled.

Is this a sign that the sensor is bad causing all the hesitation stumbling?

I see RA has them in stock and will order tonight if suggestions come back as this thing being bad.

There can be other reasons for a hesitation like a dirty throttle bore and plate. Cleaner and instructions at your local parts store. Problem with fuel pressure. Problems with a MAP sensor. Vacuum leak....etc.......

I did clean the throttle bore and plate. Also checked the air filter, replaced when I purchased the truck.

Fuel pressure is my next test. Harbor freight tomorrow during lunch is my next stop.

I did the age old spray the hoses with starting fuel and haven’t come up with anything on that side.

Just trying to figure this out, I know it’s tough without a code or scanner.

Thanks for the suggestions, at least I’m on the same mindset as you all.

All you can ascertain at this point is that it reverted to the speed-density tables to keep itself alive without the MAF. If it runs exceptionally better, then the MAF may very well be faulty. If it just 'runs', then the MAF may be fine and you have issues elsewhere. The only real way to know is to see what the sensors are reporting.

maf could be dirty if you haven't made a habit of regularly cleaning the intake, I typically see them start to take a dump around 160k,
being at 112k it's time to do plugs, wires, 02 sensors, serpentine belt, ac belt, transmission flush, brake flush, power steering flush, coolant flush, both front & rear differentials and transfer case flush (if equipped) check your wheel hubs for play, take a look at your suspension bushings and end links, tie rods, struts/shocks, check the brake calipers for leaks. check your universal joints. check all the related drivetrain seals for leaks. there is a lot maintenance to do at 100k if it hasn't been done previously.
