07 Yukon Denali. Has the Vlom and DOD solenoids. DOD is not tuned into the ECM. Confirmed with a bi-directional scan tool. So the question is......Can I pull the DOD VLOM, and replace it with a DOD delete valley pan, then run as is? Running it around in my brain, I don't see why I could not, but I have yet to pull an LS motor completely apart.

Thoughts from the experiened here would be apprecitated.

I hardly remember a thread on here I think a guy ran the wrong VLOM and it jacked his motor up. I want to say he had a motor like yours with AFM off and he swapped just the VLOM and left the AFM lifters in and the new VLOM caused those lifters to keep collapsing. Hopefully someone else remembers it better than me im sure i got some of it wrong.

2007 was a long time ago. Now you either have one of the very earliest engines built in late 2005/early 2006 or someone has changed your engine out.

If the former is true, AFM was never active in the tune but the components are there. Yes, you can remove the valley cover and replace it with the L9Hs (12610141). What's the point in doing so?

if you have afm lifters, no you can not run a flat plate unless you can modify it to vent oil from the activation holes. if you block those holes with afm lifters installed oil pressure will back up around the lifter bore and relase the pins and the afm lifter collapse. probably for the first time ever and have a high chance of sticking down.

my 2 cents is leave it alone until you need a cam swap.

Dealing with the typical low oil pressure issues. My car is the rare one with all the AFM stuff but not activated in the tune. I'm 99 percent sure my cam bearings are bad just thinking of different stuff and grasping at straws before I succum to pulling the motor. Built many a small block back in the day but have yet to tear an LS apart.

Well, if you tear into her and replace the camshaft and ditch AFM, get the flat plate. If not, err on the side of caution and leave the VLOM. That motor is near 20 years old, one of the first L92s made.

12ish at hot idle, which I know is technically ok but under acceleration I can hit 5K and not get over 30.

that is pretty low but unless the lifter bores are really messed up, the amount that gets. around the lifters and up the vent hole isn't going to make much differences. especially at 5k.

have you done all the tests like park down a steep hill and or add enough extra oil to cover the o ring?

I personally would put a high volume oil. pump and drive it till the wheels fall off, unless you're in a mood to build your first ls. than by all means enjoy it.
