I am trying to diagnose my system. For now I would like to keep the autoride. I removed the pump yesterday and bench tested it. I also tested the tubes & shocks with air.

  1. The pump powers on and pumps air. It doesnt seem to have a lot of psi, I cover the exhaust hole and it bogs down fairly easily.
  2. I removed the air lines from the shocks (new) and they raise the rear end when I shot air from my home air compressor. So I think I can say it is not the shocks.
  3. I shot air into the tube at the compressor inlet and it is extremely hard to get air through the line.
SO, with the compressor not pumping much and the tubes being somewhat restrictive, the system is not working. I dont know which is correct (tube or pump) if either. Does anybody have experience with this?

SO, just to update... I have bought a cheap replacement air pump from ebay. It is the type that comes with the dryer rebuild pieces and the plug is not included. I think it was $109 shipped.
I easily soldered over the plug and mounted and it fit an works great with much more pressure than the original. I did not rebuild the dryer. I could not take apart and didnt want to crack the plastic housing. Perhaps there is a secret to getting these open. Technically it is not really a dryer as there is not desiccant only some filters.

I bought a set of replacement air lines and they are equally as tough to get air through. So instead of re-routing the new hoses, I just left the old ones.

Finally I kept having air leaking from the tube ends into the shocks. I also cheaped out on the shocks, and bought the passive replacement ebay specials. I am only guessing they take a metric o-ring. I can not find them anywhere. So what I did was remove the o-rings from the replacement tubes I bought and put about 5 o-rings on each end. It seems the oem elbow should be able to retain pressure on the end to keep it from coming out under pressure, but they do not. The factory puts two o-rings on each end, now i have 5. I then applied some o-ring/seal silicone typically used on pool pump seals etc. to the bunch of o-rings.

Now it all seals up, and operates very well. The reason I cheaped out on replacement components was in the event I decided to really drop the truck, or if I had serious autoride issues, I could swap it all out for a full passive system and not feel so bad for not spending too much.

Congrats. You can drop the truck as far as you want and maintain Autoride if you like. Mine functions fine.

I love the "autoride" (check out my signature). My Dorman air pump on Amazon was cheap and plug and play, runs great! Rides super smooth!
