From the article: “According to The Detroit Free Press, more than 1,000 vehicles are being parked in the inventory lots per-day, with more than 10,500 vehicles currently in storage.”

That implies there’s approximately a ten day delay waiting on chips. This has been a topic of interest to me as I anticipate buying something this fall. To me, there’s a slight difference in a vehicle that’s factory fresh vs one that’s been baking in the sun for months and I usually negotiate accordingly.

So my question is when is the build date for such vehicles? If a vehicle rolled out of the factory in July and gets parked into August waiting for electronic components, what does the production record and door sticker say?

Probably a better storage location than a dealer lot, damage wise.

When you think about it, that’s only about 200 vehicles per state. That’s really not that many in the big world. When they get chips they will be out the door and sold w/in weeks…. all as 2021‘s,is my guess…

I’m curious on this as well, because so far, all the vehicles we’ve looked at have been June 2021 production date (we’ve asked each time due to lifter issue). So if they’re storing these vehicles, they must be somewhat recent in production. Why roll out June 2021 productions if they have earlier productions sitting in a lot somewhere?

My initial thought was why build if you can’t deliver? Local dealers are even being refused access to self Shipt….even completed models. I got lucky on mine had a build date of 8/9…..scheduled delivery to dealer 8/21.

Played out slightly in my favor……Build date 8/9…..customer purchase. 8/18, dealer arrival 8/19…customer delivery 8/20. Already have tint installed, tire N2 conversion from Costco, and dash cam install 8/26…..previously purchased/removed from one of the trades. Keeping the 26th but if I can get a walk in at one of the other four locations I am on it like a hobo on a ham sandwich.
