you need new shocks

Thanks guys. It has some issues but most vehicles that are 12 years old with 157k miles do. It was from MD so there is / was a bit of surface rust under it. I spent a weekend grinding and painting and it looks a lot better, hopefully it will keep it contained. Next on my list is a full tune up, brakes and shocks. Everything is sitting in the garage, just need the time to do it.

How did you clean up underneath your tahoe?

I picked up some of the rust / paint stripping grinding discs and went to town. Once I had as much stripped as I could I used some CRC Rust Converter, then painted it black.

Yep, I have some Monro Reflex's sitting in the garage waiting to go on. I have a herniated disc in my back so fixing this thing up is a slow process for me. I'm hoping to do the shocks and brakes this coming weekend.

Looks great, welcome!

For painting and grinding.. What was your process for that ? Wire wheel or what? What type of paint did you use?

Also, my trans went on my 2002 suburban and I opted for the dealer remanufactured trans. I paid $1500 for trans and I installed myself. It came with the same warranty and is transferable.

I've got 20 000 + km on it now and it's all good!

I used this Paint and Rust Stripper for the grinding, then wiped it down with a rag. For the hard to reach places or problem areas I used this CRC Rust Converter, after it dried I used some Krylon spray paint. I had maybe $40-50 in all of the supplies.

The differential cover was rusting through so I replaced it as well.

I bought this '02 Tahoe knowing it needed a transmission. It would barely drive once it warmed up. Some fresh fluid, filter and some Lucas Transmission fix basically cured the problem with the exception of a little bit of slipping from 2nd to 3rd. I'm still replacing the transmission but now I'm not quite in the hurry I was before. I can have the transmission rebuilt for $1650, this includes an 18 month / 18,000 mile warranty. A GM re-certified transmission would be around $2200 installed, this would give a 36 month / 100,000 mile warranty. I'm leaning towards it as I've had some bad luck with transmissions in the past (700R4). Thoughts on the two?

I'm not looking to spend a ton of money on it, but I will add some personality to it. I'm in the exhaust business so that's a must, going to go with shorty headers and a large body MagnaFlow. Other than that it needs a sound system and new wheels and tires and a few other hop ups. I've read a ton of contradicting information on the tire size you can fit on a stock Tahoe. I was leaning towards 275 65 18's, will that fit on a stock setup?

Do you know any one with a lift because you could buy a rebuilt for $500 plus the core.. is very easy to install if you have a lift. I replaced one on my back and 18 inch blocks around the vehicle

I have access to several lifts but with my back being screwed up there is no way I could do it myself right now.
