Yea, i would put the 295/40 on the fronts. Shouldnt be a problem. Same size width and same size tall ( cant think of the real name of it, but the 2nd number (40, 45,50. etc) So i dont see it being a issue there.

For the rear, if the 285 is no good, get rid of it. But if one 305/35 is good and your going to get another one, its going to be smaller, that 2nd number, tallness, so the rear is going to be lower than the front, maybe not by much, maybe someone can chime in on that. But if you could i would see if you could get some 295/40's (2 of them) for the rear. Since you have to replace the bad one. Not a big deal having a 305 in the rear, just going to be wider, but the 35 will be smaller. But if the price for one 305 is better than 2 295's and worth it, then i guess i would just go the 305 route.

But to me, i would just get 2 more 295/40's for the rear. That way they are all the same. I just dont like the short sidewall. (thats the name of it, that 2nd number, the sidewall.) lol....

For the record the second number IS sidewall height but its a percentage of the first number (mm wide) so in this case you are right.. a 295/40 is 33.29 inches tall vs the 305/35 is 32.41.. but dont be confused cause just because the second number is higher doesnt always mean its taller.. like for instance the new 405/25/24 is 32 inches even.. vs a 255/40/24 would be the exact same height and sidewall just way skinnier for the front.. (see widebody camaro ss).

You still need to have matching pairs AT LEAST.. cause like was said way back you can do major drivetrain damage.
