woah woah woah....a crate 350 w/290 would have run you 1900 or so. less if you knew someone who worked at a shop. my brother picked one up for his k5 for 1200. oh well. good luck and hope it all turns out well.

Damn. I paid $3500+tax installed and I thought I got a deal. With the Loonie at almost par you'd think that there wouldn't be such a price gouging.. sigh...

I ordered my reman'd 350 yesturday... should be here Tues or Wed!

My wife's, friends father is gonna help me remove & replace the old & new motors... We are gonna pull the old motor tomorrow, should only take a few hours!!!

Hey man, I wish you good luck with that. Hope it works well out for you.
The good news is that you'll have a new intake gasket and won't have to worry about this problem again probably for the life of the truck.

Hehe, I was going to remind you to check the new block for a block heater, but I'm thinking that in Miami, you might not need it....

Heater in Miami!! Haha!! More like A/C in Miami... If we are lucky we get low 70's..... Or a cool spell like we had this weekend where it got down into the 50's at night!! And that's winter weather!

Should have the motor out tomorrow, most of it's already done, just need to unhook the tranny and bracket for the power steering pump....

Pics coming soon!!!!

That's alot of water!
Wow.

BTW, just a side note. When I bought my new motor, they wouldn't put orange coolant back in, they insisted on green coolant.

They said that orange over time builds up junk and may completely block the water jackets. My old block had partial blockage. I didn't believe them about complete blockage until I saw that pic! That pic should be a poster child pic for switching over to green coolant!!!
Not that I know anything, just what the mech told me....
Possibly consider putting green back into your new motor?

Cool that you mostly did it yourself! I wouldn't have the balls to do something like that...

Look at how clean yours is under the intake! Mine was jam packed full of black congealed mass of gunk, you could take a screw driver and pick/scrape at it. Yours looks positively shiney!

There is alot of black jook in the motor ....... Don't know how much you had, but there was stuff in mine.... all the pistons were covered in it....

And I'm gonna check with a buddy of mine that works with GM and see what he thinks, because I was thinking of weither to put the standard green antifreeze or Dex-Cool, which is the supposed 100K mile fluid that this motor had.... GM came out with it in like 94-95.....

Motor should be here today hopefully, if not definitely tomorrow!!!!!

Can't wait to get it in!

Oh & thanks, really wasn't that hard, I'm just glad that I had someone who was a mechanic that knew what to disconnect to take it out, the physical labor wasn't that bad, just some bolts that were in ackward places to get too......
