Need Advice - 2018 Yukon Denali - needs new engine

regardless...... you obvisously have more details that are not being shared
if they gave you a price then it must also have came with paperwork detailing what is and what is not included.
as such, you might look it over and see what part is noted as "recomended", with your personal knowledge of the vehicle of what has been and not been serviced or maintained I would guess that some things could be excluded/re-used.
you come at us with "it needs a new engine" and no further details. so what the heck happened? did it eat the cam? blow a rod thru the block? stuck lifter?
there are many things the dealer will not want to repair or will charge a higher price than a regular shop for something that could "maybe" be repaired for less.
usually unless they found something catastrophic pretty easily then a teardown is in order.
on top of that "some" things are negotiable, you just have to ask
the story of it got towed to the dealer, they said it needs a new engine for $22k, there closing for the day and told me to go kick rocks and see sales seems lacking

At the time of my original post up to 5 minutes ago, that is exactly the only information I had. A phone call that I need a new engine.

Now, I JUST got off the phone with the technician, because the advisor wasn't able to answer my questions, who is saying it's bearings, and that it's a "typical 6.2" problem. They don't advise breaking the engine down to do any further investigation because they're confident "the motor needs to be replaced"

seems to be a rash of bearing issue's but only on the T2's and new engines
so even if it bit the dust, you can have another engine even if low to mid mileage completely done for half there price
just look up L86 plus the 8th digit of your vin number. such as vin j
you can find used 6.2l for around $6,000 (all day long) figure a high cost of install of $4,000 that's less than half of what the dealer wants
if cash is a issue you put it on a credit card, then do a zero interest balance transfer to another card, for a fee. then you have 12 months to pay it off or transfer to another card.

Ok that's good information to know. I did just talk to someone who said 6.2 "issues" are 2020 and newer. Is that what you mean by T2s and newer?

I personally would still need to know what that breakdown is to justify the $22k. What costs what? A new 6.2 installed, just does not cost $22k.

You should name and shame that dealership.
$22k for a motor? It better be a built. high hp 427ci going in lol

Realistically, should be like $8k for a motor.
He revised the estimate down to 16,000 because the core fee wasn't taken into consideration. So it's still $16,400 for the motor, $6k labor, $9k parts, the rest taxes.

How is $6k labor arrived at? Remember, I was guessing at $200 an hour for 30 hours, is $6k. That was a deliberate huge exaggeration. What is the motor price, alone? What is the breakdown for the rest.....fluids and such?

They will still make another run at you for a new vehicle. The core change, bait and switch, was left in on purpose to floor you with a huge price and get you to jump for a new vehicle. There was sales people left over to work on you after the tech is gone. Then the next day, the core charge is removed and they apologize. Rat fink b*a*s*t*a*r*d*s.

I've got a friend that works at a dealership by my house. It's a Chevy dealer but it's not the same owner as the Chevy dealership in Wilmington NC. He's doing some research on parts prices and will do the work. I'm towing 140 miles to hopefully save some money
