Need Advice - 2018 Yukon Denali - needs new engine

You know with all of this information about delays for the 6.2's I wonder if that's why they cost so much so maybe if the dealer ends up putting a 5.3 in it it would be a lot less. There was a statement made that if I put a 6.6 in it which I believe is the same engine just bored out differently, it would not be covered under warranty because it's not the correct engine for the vehicle. I wonder if that would be the same thing for the 5.3 considering it originally had a 6.2.
that's a loaded question.
any dealer offered warranty no matter what you choose needs to be looked over and be sure it is a gm warranty (nationwide) and not a "dealer" warranty where you have to take it to them. otherwise 3rd party options with a warranty say from fraser, there warranty "should" cover engine failure and parts/labor, (nationwide) the catch is there payout for labor is a pro-rated amount, so any warranty work would need to be agreed upon by a shop at the pro-rated amount, so say a shop normally charges 160hr, the warranty coverage may only pay 110hr and normally "most" shops will agree to it, but may not. in which case you could either take it somewhere else or pay the difference out of pocket.
in any case read the fine print......

For $32,000 you can have that thing shipped to SVE and it will come back with 1000HP supercharged 416 block, an upgraded trans, AND a 3 year warranty.

As others have said, it will be more of a pain in the a$$ but I would get that rig towed to an independant shop and get the 6.6 or even a reman 6.2 installed.

We drove about 2 hours and at the end of our trip heard a winding or squeaking sound coming from the front of the car. At that point we were doing about 30-35 mph with in town. Got to my daughter's house had it idling tried to listen for the noise with the hood open and heard nothing. The car sat for a few hours and then we got back in it and within about 10 minutes I heard a quick squeak, air conditioner went off and lost complete power to the vehicle. When I mean power, I mean driving, I hit the accelerator and nothing happened. For a few minutes of us being stranded on the side of the road, the electrical system still worked, until it didn't, and the battery went dead. My initial thoughts were that it's the alternator that went, although no dashboard lights came on at all. We had it towed to the local Chevy dealer in Wilmington North Carolina and they are telling me that it needs a new motor, to the tune of $22,000. I asked for codes and they're still trying to gather those for me because the technician had left early for the day.

I had a few questions for him specifically how a mechanical engine failure would have drained the battery so fast and not one engine light came on. There was no knocking no dinging no smoke no overheating no smells.... nothing. Something doesn't seem right to me. I'd also add that we just had the hundred thousand mile maintenance done on it so we were expecting this to be clear sailing for the next few years. Anybody have any suggestions or thoughts? We are in Cary North Carolina right outside Raleigh if it helps.

You should name and shame that dealership.
$22k for a motor? It better be a built. high hp 427ci going in lol

Realistically, should be like $8k for a motor.
Consider them Named at this point since there is only one Chevy dealer in Wilmington.:) I do like the GMC dealer and have had good experiences with them.

Consider them Named at this point since there is only one Chevy dealer in Wilmington.:) I do like the GMC dealer and have had good experiences with them.
UPDATE: I have been dealing with one of the managers at the dealership who has been extremely helpful and compassionate and it seems like has really helped get us out of a pickle. It looks like we're going to sell them the truck as is and what they're giving us is far more than what I think it's even worth. And if I put the money into getting the motor fixed and then tried to sell it I would end up with less than what they're giving me right now. Mathematically it wouldn't make sense for me to get the motor done for what they got for an as is trade in.

Honestly I'm really impressed with this person's willingness to try to get the best thing they can for us.

Plus, you can bet that wherever they can, the old parts will be reused, when they would be telling you that those same old parts need replaced when doing a big job like this. They will band-aid it and sell it or send to auction.

As a mechanic for many years, I had a customers car towed into my shop for a no start condition. I quickly tried cranking it over and could see almost no movement from the harmonic balancer. I told him it had probably seized but I would look into later when I had the time. It turns out the alternator was locked solid keeping the engine from turning. It's hard to believe how much torque a serpentine belt can hold without slipping! If they haven't taken a deep dive into it I wouldn't trust them. Another example of dealer dishonesty is when I took a part time job as a Napa driver after I retired and in my late seventies. The Dodge caravan I was driving started slipping in reverse and popping out of park. I told the store owner it was because the outer cable had come loose and instead was sliding out of the crimp keeping it from pushing the the shift lever on the trans but allowing it to pull it into the forward gears. The Napa owner sent it to the local Dodge dealer who told us the trans was shot AND it also needed a new engine! That's as bad as many dealers can get.
