Need Help! My 07 Yukon XL is very very dead

It seems so. I'll dig more tomorrow. It is hot as blazes today, and a big thunderstorm just started. Of course, my 5 garage bays are all full of other stuff, so I am working outside. First world problems, right?

I'm going to order a Tech2 or something similar tonight. Any recommendations?

Screw it. I bought them both. I picked a Tech2 from someone in NY that had good feedback on them, could confirm the software version, answered my questions promptly, and I’ll see it in two days.

Gotta get this thing fixed. The kids are getting tired if riding in my ‘54 Chevy with no AC. Hopefully this keeps me out of the dealership. I’ll see which one I like better. I do a fair bit of side work on other people’s cars, so they will be handy I’m sure.

What features are you expecting from a "real" one that the "clones" do not have? I'm of mind that the old ones command a high price because they started out high and the stigma attached to the newer ones. GM as you know has moved on, Vetronix was the last licensed company to make these (or have them made) so the Chicoms started selling them. OTC, Bosch and Vetronix all have different features, they are not exactly the same. Mine doesn't have the training mode nor the ability to copy PCMCIA cards, was that part of a 10% difference to avoid copywrite law violations and prevent their import? I don't know. Communists are famous for stealing and reverse engineering everything as Communism does not allow for creativity except in rare cases or bungles!

Will do. I'm anxiously awaiting their arrival. I should have the Autel tomorrow and the Tech2 Friday. 2 days shipping for the Tech2 turned into 4 days. Oh well.

Still poking away at my dead Yukon. Last night, I investigated the ignition switch. Seems to be working as it should. It is sending power out in the accessory position and the run position. Still, the vehicle has no response when I switch to the accessory position and a very limited response in the run position.

I also mapped out power status at every fuse in off, accessory, and run positions. The problem is, I don't know what they should be.

It is actually throwing a P1682 code, not P1685.

Red circles have power all the time. Nothing changes in the Accessory key position. Yellow highlights have power in the Run key position.

[emoji22] I’ll translate the fuse diagram back to the circuit description in the manual. That would make a bit more sense.

Did you get the shop manual yet? If so, go into the folder called bonus file and open the pdf there, should be called silverado-2007-2009. Do a CRTL-F and type in your trouble code and have a look. From what I'm seeing, this code points to a bad ECM. But you need to see what other active or old codes there may be.

2AM and the Yukon is fixed. The Tech2 said the BCM was not communicating. I messed around for a long time trying to figure out whether I could program a new BCM. Many hours later, I had my old Windows XP machine pulled out of the attic and fired up. I needed a serial port and windows XP for the TIS2000 software. Next problem was getting a security dongle to unlock the programming features. I finally got it all going and got confident enough to think I could do some reprogramming. I figured I try to reprogram the old BCM, and that actually straightened everything out. I am so damned happy. Thanks everyone. I will do my best to pay it forward on the forum.
