Hello, I'm new to this site in hopes that I can get some help. I just bought a 98 2door tahoe LT and the all the gauges needles seem to work except for the fuel gauge. when the truck is off, it shows less than a quarter of a tank and when I
start her up, the needle drops to empty and doesn't move at all. the previous owner said it worked fine before he replaced the the fuel pump and the tank floaty. he also said he removed it again after he noticed that it stopped working as
well to check that the floater was correctly placed. he said all was good, but still has the issue where the fuel needle doesn't read the fuel in the tank. any help on what I should do or if anyone else has had this issue and what you've done tofix it would be greatly appreciated. if you wouldn't mind, please respond to my email at [email protected] until I can get my account setup on here since I'm a rookie here. thanks again.

Hi,
One way is to remove the sending unit from the tank, reconnect it, turn the key on and move the float arm up and down while watching for a change in the gauge reading. If the gauge hasn't responded within a couple of minutes, you've confirmed the fact that you have a problem. But you're still at square one because you don't know where it is.

If the gauge doesn't respond appropriately when the resistance in the sending unit circuit is changed, check the hot terminal at the gauge to see if it's receiving voltage. If it is but the needle doesn't move, then it's time for a new gauge.

I used to do few checks like above, why don't you try out, and let me know.
