Need help with heater problems

I have a 2007 Tahoe LT. Right now Im having a little problem with my heater. It only works when it wants and most of the time it works when I really don't need it. When I turn on my heater it will blow cold as if the A/C would be on and stays like that. Some days when I turn it on the heater works fine. Could anyone help me out with this problem?
