Welcome on Todd!
Do you have a desire to be on the "I Survived....Beyond and Back" show due to not wearing your seat belt?
I'm joking. Just trying to bust your chops.

Nice Yukon. Do you mind me asking how much it was out the door?
Also, the idling issue you are feeling could be due to a weak battery or activation of your e-fans.
Those two things can cause brief electrical system strain that will change the idle. I doubt its mechanical since it was brand new.

I know...Im told that a lot (i.e. seat belts)...but you could say that to anyone who smokes, sky dives, or mountain climbs ;)
Thanks for the compliment...sure...i don't mind telling you what I paid. It was 53K and change. With incentives, I got it down to around 49-50 plus tax (approx.)

Regarding the idling thing...YES!! it does seem to be electrical..because when this happens, the lights in the car get brighter for a second (or should I say the get dimmer..not sure). You mention e-fans....whats an e-fan?...and is this something that can be calibrated so that I don't feel this sort of 'rough idle'...

Thanks again for your reply!

e-fan are electrical fans vs. the regular belt driven fans.
Your truck has e-fans.

Ok thanks. I was wondering because I want a 2014 Yukon or Denali when it comes out.

With your description I would have to say it's the e-fan or battery. To test this, turn the car on and then turn on all your interior lights via the little knob to the left of the steering right above the fog light button.
After you do this try and put up both front windows while they are already up and see if the lights dim.
If they do, then it's normal for these cars. They all do that whenever some accessory that draws decent power is activated (e-fans, window motors etc).
Best thing you can do to try and resolve it is do the BIG 3 electrical upgrade, get and overdrive alt. pulley, a bigger alternator, or a powerful battery. To me, all those are overkill. When I first got my Tahoe that same issue bugged me but I quickly got used to it.

Yeah....the age old question...get the car/truck design that's been around for a while, or wait for the new one. I figure we have, what...another year and a half-two years before GM releases the new Tahoe/Yukons, correct? I just couldn't wait. My old truck would've just lost too much value...and I really needed to get some of that money back on the trade. I tried selling privately once...lets just say..never again. My gun collection almost got involved in that transaction ;) I will admit though...my buddy just got a loaded Ford F-250 Diesel...don't know if I mentioned this already...friggin interior was superior to my Yukon...it was just newer...more modern...whatever you want to call it. I still love the way the Tahoe/Yukons look on the outside...and their interiors are comfortable...this thing drives really nice...nicer than my last vehicle. But that Ford dash/cabin was something to friggin see. I have to admit...I was a little jealous. At the same time, I am happy with what I have. When the new ones come out, I'll probably be a little bummed out...that's just me. But I've always had good luck with cars when I bought them at the end of their lifecycle. I can't say that about cars when they were new designs. Not all...but one Pontiac (WS6) Trans Am comes to mind. That was a brand new model...and what a POS...nothing but problems. It really did put a bad taste in my mouth for GM...and I was a GM guy for years before that. Anyway....that's my take on new design vs. old...I'm sure everyone has their own thoughts on that!

Regarding the rough idle...so would you think a bigger battery alone would fix this? And with that said, that may make it so the lights don't dim when other electrical components are activated, but how is that going to affect the engine idle...is it because of those "e-fans" that the engine is idling a little rough to begin with?

I appreciate the replies!

Yes you are correct. About another year and a half. I understand you not wanting to wait due to your older car losing more value. Hopefully when I do my private sell of my current Tahoe it goes smoothly.
I also will be bummed when a newer modeal comes out. That's why I have decided to scoop one.
I already know their exteriors and interiors will be superior to the current model. For some reason, GM has a lag on their interior design. Their interiors normally look too "dated" for the year they come out.
They had very impressive progress on these 07-Up ones though Let's just hope they don't screw the next one up. From the looks of the new Cadillacs, GMCs, and Chevy's that debuted at the 2012 New York Auto Show, the next full size SUV line should be impressive.
I also thought about the random annoying issues that the first year of new model cars tend to have, but I know I won't be able to wait until the 2015 comes out before getting one. Plus, my current 07 was a first year of the NNBS model and I have not had any issues with it that are too annoying. Would have been better off if it was an 08 though.

Back on topic,
A bigger/newer battery would be the last option I would consider amongst the list that I put out. Those recommendations will affect the strain the e-fans put on the battery/alternator when they activate that cause the engine idle to change in the first place.
A bigger battery would not be as effective as the other mods I listed. It is also on the expensive side. I personally would choose to do the BIG 3 wiring upgrade along with an overdrive pulley. Those two will more than likely cause your issue to stop because you do not have aftermarket electrical accessories. They are also cheap to do.
I do have a sound system, so those two mods will be some of the last mods I do to my current Tahoe. Should have done it by now but I have been being lazy!

I agree with you on the ford interior Todd. The DIC and nav KILLS the GM version. A bunch of my coworkers have the F150 and F250 and I was drooling over how clean their DIC looked.

Thanks for the reply man..yeah...I'm pretty honest when it comes to cars...gm did a great job with their interiors with the last refresh...compared to the previous gen models..but it is an older design now...I'm fine with that...it's like computers..you can never really keep up with the latest thing as something new is always around the corner... The ford did look great..but my gmc looks cooler on the outside...so take the good with the bad.

Regarding the upgrade your mentioning....I'm not the most mechanically inclined...I gotta pay for my services (unfortunately)..is this a dealer upgrade..or aftermarket? I tried the window thing tonight, and that's absolutely the case..when I press both windows up the inside and outside lights dim. So I would seriously consider doing this upgrade if it's not something that's too pricey.

Speaking of weather tech...I had a bad experience with them tonight and I feel compelled to share with you guys. I bought those side window deflectors/visors from weathertech and while the receipt said 07 later Yukon models, the plastic on the visors said 01-06...and they were so obviously the wrong part. When I called the woman on the phone asked me what the part number was and I told her..both numbers ( on the receipt and on the plastic) were the same...but they were different parts. She didn't want to hear it. So I said I just wanted to return them...but now they're making me pay for the shipping. Now it's not my fault their system is incorrect..I shouldn't have to cover this cost. In any event, I took a bunch of pictures, and I'm going to send this to them...I got an RNA number..but like I said...they should be covering the shipping when it's their mistake, don't you think?
Anyway...thought I would share.

Thanks do much for the suggestions and replies. I really appreciate it..great message board!

Yeah...I really wish I hadn't seen that DIC....that's what bummed me out. Had his looked like mine, I'd have said...oh....so he's got round air vents...mine are rectangular :) Leave it to Ford to finally do something cool when I like GM's overall design better.
