How are the mileage differences? Also was mainly wondering how these rigs do with traction control and what not...like I said only experience is old solid axle gas pickups and newer diesel pickups

Actually before my two current rides I had an 08 Tahoe LTZ 5.3L 2WD and it got 15-16 MPG's. My avy 4x4 5.3L DIC says 14.8 so it isnt too different since I can keep it on Auto or 2WD. But the AWD Esky 6.2L says 11.1 :(

Wow...that's pretty crazy. I would have expected a larger difference. What kind of mileage do you guys see on the freeway? I am stationed in BFE (29 Palms, CA) so freeway mileage is good to know as pretty much everything is hours away haha.

Before I started changing stuff on my truck, I got over 20 on long trips. Keep in mind my truck is a 4 speed. I free years ago I had a rental 2010 Tahoe with the 6 speed. I cruises from Salt Lake to St. George, UT and back and only saw 17.5. That's about 8 hours of interstate driving total. But, to be fair, the posted speed limit for the majority of that trip was 75 & 80. The trips in my 07 were mostly 55 & 60 posted limits. I'm sure that'll play a factor in everything.

Btw, you spelled the name of that duty station wrong. Iirc, it's 29 Stumps.

CAn't say for SoCal.... but my rule of thumb in "nowhere MN" is that at least one of the family vehicals should be a AWD/4X4. It just so currently happen both of mine are.... than I don't have to worry about mama in the snow!!! Part of it is piece of mind. IF use to 4X4's I'd say get another..... you'll kick yourself the time you need it most and don't have it!!

Good luck deciding.

Another thing to consider, 4wd tends to hold its value a lot more. Also easier to resell. Most people looking for an SUV want 4wd.

Well I just drove from LA to Sacramento in my AWD Denali with one other person, and at least 500lbs of cargo and got in the 15's... but our average speed was low to mid 80's
