Congrats mate, a new purcahse is always a good thing. Originally from the UK, crap weather is a normal way of life, snow doesn't compare to Alaska, but no matter where you go, so many drivers know crap about driving in snow, even hard rain (spot the knob head up your arse when its raining?).

My take is if you've grown up in Alaska and been driving a while, you'll know more about driving in snow than most, but my thoughts are this. Driver skill has more to do with performance than any other factor. But correct me gents if i'm wrong 2WD vs 4WD helps with weight? lower gear ratio, lower tire presures, snow chains all aid in better grip, but most accidents happen (seen with my eyes) because many think 4WD equal total grip, and this is simply not the case. Correct me if i'm wrong (and i'm just put it out that as a question).

Cheers POLO

Polo that's definitely a correct assessment. You have two kinds of 4wd owners one's that think 4wd makes you invincible to inclement weather, can stop on a dime on black ice and cures most diseases and then you have realists like myself that understand Murphy's law. I ended up with 4wd just for piece of mind and so I can take it camping out in the desert and in the mountains/snow.

Made a trip to big bear today...lots of fun did a trail run and bout that 4x4 works great! Glad to say the reason I left originally Gm was because of the IFS on my duramax but sering how it works on an appropriately sized vehicle was great

This is TOTALY TRUE! I'm in Switzerland now, we dont have huge snow winter like in Quebec (by example), and as you know, their is a LOT of 4WD here, but you cant imagine the chaos here in winter when we get 2cm of snow! So, I think, in my mind, always better to have a 4WD, but the driver needs to know is limits and how to act on snow, heavy rain etc...
