Hi guys I just got my Yukon and put 200 miles on it ran and drove perfect. I bought it from a mechanic with 20,000 on rebuilt engine and 5,000 miles on the rebuilt transmission. Took it out to test the 4x4 then ran into some issues the power steering just quit out of nowhere on me, checked the fluid it was a little low so I topped it off still no power steering. About 30miles later on my way home the steering started viciously shaking back n forth. Pulled over and checked everything out didn't see anything wrong. Continued driving it was good 10mins later did it again it went away then it did it again about 10min after that any ideas?

The shake is from a loose/weak steering components or maybe a loose rim. Some more details on the symptoms will help narrow issues down. Speed, any specific triggers you notice that can make it shake, or maybe even road surface. The power steering has me at a loss it sounds like it just suddenly died or plugged a line. Both are possible just unusual.

Sounds like the Death Wobble. The smallest bump can send it into a violent shaking. Seems to come out of nowhere but the combination of the right speed and a bump will get it going. Common cause is worn out suspension and or steering components. Might need to look at your front track bar and ball joints as well as steering. Good luck!

Thanks but if it was a loose rim or a steering component wouldn't it do it all the time? The first time it did it was on a smooth new highway at about 30mph the 2nd and 3rd time was on a county highway at about 50 55mph but after the last time I took it on a 50mile round trip to the grocery store and it hasn't done it since I have 2 kids and its are only vehicle right now so I just want to make sure it's safe

If it was a loose rim yes it would generally shake all the time. If it was a loose or weak steering/suspension component then no. Sometimes it just takes the right road condition to start a "death wobble". Also a rim/tire out of balance can also shake pretty bad at certain speeds. It is just as mooseknuckle stated, 2nd gen dodge rams are known for this due to a poor trackbar design and wears out easily and an outdated steering box design.

I would budget a new power steering pump quickly. If your driving around with no power steering you can't really control the vehicle. Things like a bit of play in the front end can become magnified with out PS helping you drive thru it. On your truck a PS pump R & R shouldn't be a big job. Check Rock Auto for a replacement.

Don't fool around with this...you need to take care of this ASAP. Talk to the mechanic that sold you the truck...he might help you with the swap.

Good Luck !!
