Hi everyone. I just joined the forum. Just got an 2004 Suburban with full time 4wd. Haven't had an suv for a while but I live in Colorado now and want to be able to do some light off roading and camping. I actually came here looking for some mechanical advice. There is a hum/whine when I accelerate and while cruising. No noise when turning or steering. Took it to a drive train place and they said based on the noise it sounds like the front diff gears or bearings need replacement. Spoke to another mechanic and he was asking if it might be the rear differential as he said that tends to be a weak link in early 2000s gms. Has anyone else had this issue?

Welcome! Have you checked the fluid levels in the diffs and transfer case? If the noise is really bad the damage may be done already. However, it's simple place to start. Anything can be the weak link when it's not running to specs.
