I have an 04 GMC Yukon XL Denali with 115k miles. Lately, I noticed the steering wheel has a clunking sound whenever it is turned either to left or right. The sound is loud enough to irritate me.

The weird part is the clunking sound is only present after driving the car for about 20-30 minutes. It feels like something needs to be lubricated.

The power steering pump was replaced but it did not resolve the problem. I did search and it sounds like it is Intermediate steering shaft. I just need input from other members if my symptoms are the same with owners that replaced ISS.

Thanks.

Sounds like the ISS to me....

I had it replaced on my '03 Silverado and now my '07 Tahoe is starting the very faint knock (or clunk when it gets worse)....not bad enough for me to worry about yet.

Just do some searches on here, I know there are write ups for lubing/replacing the shaft.

Replace it!

GM part number 19153614

Easy to change. Just DO NOT let the steering wheel turn with the shaft out!

Thanks. I read from previous post of other members using Dorman Intermediate shaft steering. Any inputs? Should I stay with GM parts?

Also, can anyone chime in on how easy the replacement on scale of 1 to 10. I'm pretty handy but I need directions on what steps to take to accomplish the task.

Thanks.
